The PHCC is approved by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, Office of Apprenticeship Training, Employer and Labor Services to operate a Federally Approved Apprenticeship Program in California.

This program is offered to PHCC Members throughout California, with no geographic limitations. The program is a four-year program, consisting of 576 classroom instruction hours and 8,000 on-the-job training hours.

The work process requirements are the same as the California Approved Apprenticeship Program and parallel four-year Training Program, with an additional 800 hours of miscellaneous work processes to allow for deviation in the work of individual plumbing contractors.

The classroom instruction will follow the National Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Plumbing Curriculum; the same curriculum followed by PHCC-GSA PUAC’s other two programs.

Federal apprentices must meet the following requirements: be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma, GED, or the equivalent, and pass the required written examination and oral interview for the program.

At the present time, PHCC Federal Apprentices must be paid wages not in violation of Title VIII, Section 208 of the California Code of Regulations for state public works projects and private work.

PHCC is excited to offer this new Federal Apprenticeship Program to its members. Forms to participate in the Federal Program are enclosed at the rear of this packet, including the apprentice application, the employer acceptance agreement, and the apprentice agreement.
